STATEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE SIGNIFICANCE: The building was constructed in 1959 as the new Australian headquarters of London Assurance, a UK based insurance company. It was designed by Bernard Evans, a Melbourne architect with a long career, who was also Melbourne City Councillor for many years in the 1960s, and 70s and was an outspoken mayor in the early 1970s.
